Chicago Area Racing History Website Launched

Chicago, IL - www.chicagolandautoracing.com is a new website about Chicago area auto racing history-both stock car and open wheel racing.

Active on the area racing scene for more than 30 years, Stan Kalwasinski has put together the website. Kalwasinski, a resident of Munster, Ind., began going to the races with his parents, visiting tracks like Chicago's 87th Street Speedway and Raceway Park near Blue Island when he was just a youngster. Over the years, Kalwasinski has been involved in auto racing photography, track announcing and motorsports journalism.

"I just thought the website would be a great way to preserve and promote the area's racing history, Kalwasinski said. "There is a lot of racing history connected with Chicago and surrounding areas -the old wood board track in Maywood, racing at Soldier Field and the one-mile Roby Speedway in Hammond. It's pretty extensive and a lot of it is almost forgotten. Over the years, people have said I should write a book about local racing. Maybe, the website will do."

With updates and stories being added, the website will be revised on a constant basis, including its "Pic of the Week" feature. Contributions and comments are welcome.
