Biesemeyer takes Plymouth Speedway’s Mini Stock 50

By: Andrew Hayn

Plymouth, IN (July 17, 2010) - This past Saturday night the Plymouth Speedway hosted four great classes of cars with the outlaw late models, sportsmen, street stocks, and the mini stocks. It was the mini stocks’ night to shine with their largest event at the speedway in 2010, the Mini Stock 50.

The night began with qualifying for all four divisions. In the late models the field watched on as Adam Terry set the fastest lap of the night around the 3/8 mile with a time of 13.466. In the sportsmen Zach Tanner set the pace for the field with a time of 14.292. Randy Pressler returned for the first time this season after capturing the track championship a year ago in the street stocks to record fast time for the night in the division. He made it around the track with a time of 15.398. Setting the pace for the mini stocks was the point leader Darrin Harrel of Plymouth with a time of 15.213.

After a brief opening ceremony it was time to go heat racing. The first heats out of the pit area were the street stocks. The class ran two eight lap heats. David Pointen Junior grabbed the checkered for his first win of the season at the Plymouth Speedway. The second and fast heat went to Dave Long in possibly the closest finish in the track’s long history. The difference between the win and second place Randy Pressler was only .007 seconds.

In the sportsmen the division ran two eight lap heat events. The first heat race for the division went to Brandon Maynard for his first victory of the year at the speedway. The second race went to Bristol, Indiana’s “Froggy” Tim Craig.

The late models ran two eight lap heats with some very close racing action. Two competitors grabbing the checkers and heading to victory lane were Mike Horvath and “Radical” Rich Boal.

After intermission which included a kid’s nickel pitch for the speedway’s up and coming generation of fans it was time to go feature racing. The first feature out of the gate was the street stock feature. Dave Long continued his winning streak after a close call in turns three and four that sent him wheeling out of the dirt for the win. He was followed in second by Cory Lindsey and Stephanie Scott rounded out the podium in third.

The sportsmen ran a thirty lap feature that showcased the talents of the Maynard family. Brandon Maynard and Ron Maynard Junior made it their first ever one-two finish at the Plymouth Speedway after Ronnie was unsuccessful in many attempts to make the pass for the win. Finishing in the third position and helping himself in the tight point battle was Kevin Gunkle.

The late models ran a forty lap feature. Chesterton’s Brian Muick ran a strong race leading from green to checker for his first ever feature win at the Plymouth Speedway. He was followed in second by Steve Stacey and rounding out the podium was the current point leader Adam Terry.

The final race of the night was the Mini Stock 50 with bonus money added for the top three podium positions from Carnegie Towing and Crane Service. The race started strong with current point leader and 2010 dominator Darrin Harrell pulling out to an early advantage. Then on lap fifteen the 01 car broke and Harrell was forced to the infield. This broke way for Dave Biesemeyer to make a big run. He did just that to capture his first feature win of the season. He was followed in a close second by Jeromie Damron. Tommy Damron finished in the third position behind his son after returning to the race season after a nine year hiatus from the sport.

This Saturday, July the 24th, it is the Plymouth Speedway’s Mid-Season Championship with all five classes of cars. They include the outlaw late models, sportsmen, street stocks, mini stocks, and front wheel drives. The racing action begins at seven o’clock.
