Kil-Kare Door Closer Friday
by Jerry Wahl
Xenia, OH (September 6, 2011)
- Kil-Kare Speedway will pull the curtain
on the 2011 racing season Friday night as the season will come
to a close for
the NASCAR All-American Series events. It will double points night
for the late models, modifieds, sport stocks, and compacts with
the track champions in each division determined at the close of
the nights activity.
Only three late model drivers have participated in all seventeen events held
this year, Don Mahaffey of Dayton, Dick Dunlevy Jr., of New Carlisle, and Beavercreek's
Brandon Oakley. Mahaffey and Dunlevy are former track champs and both are contendors
to take the points race. Only ten points separate them as Mahaffey has 850 to
Dunlevy's 840.
Wheeling, West Virginia's Travis Braden missed the first two weeks of action
but is in striking distance as he in third place with 822 points while Oakley
has 755 which makes it almost impossible for him to go home the late model champion.
The top three modified drivers have also participated in all seventeen events
but it is Vandalia's Derek Westherhead who has a good chance of earning his first
track championship. Weatherhead has a twenty seven points lead over Xenia's Ryan
Fleming who has 811 points to Weatherhead's 838. Miamisburg's Jason Mahaffey
holds down third spot with 776 points.
The sport stock division is a toss up as any one of three drivers can end up
that division's champ. South Charleston's Mike South Jr. is the current leader
with 835 points, but only fifteen behind him is Beavercreek's Travis Digges with
820 points. Still in contention is third place driver Shawn Stansell of Dayton
with 808.
The deciding factor in the compacts will go right down to the final checker flag
between leader Matt Stone and Bo Hoelscher. Stone, of Pleasant Hill has a mere
ten point lead with 900 points while Riverside's Hoelscher has 890 points. Though
not in contention for the championship there is a battle for third in points
as Xenia's Bryan Lynch has 749 to another Xenia resident, Gary Williams who has
740.
It will be an interesting night to say the least as four drivers will go home
happy as the reigning 2011 Kil-Kare Speedway track champions who will receive
their rewards at the annual banquet at a later date. They also will be honored
at the Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club "Banquet of Champions" on December
3.
